AUDIO VISUAL TECHNICIAN
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Audio Visual Technician is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of all audio visual equipment and related devices and peripherals, including control panels. Provides support for all audio visual technology; controls recording systems at all Queens Library facilities and its sponsored programs & events. Performs maintenance, repair and operation of electronic audio and visual projection equipment and related work. Maintains, repairs and operates motion picture equipment, slide, opaque and overhead projectors; portable public address systems; tape recorders; video tape recorders; am/pm radios; cameras, and other audio-visual electronic equipment.
- Sets up, maintains, and operates integrated and stand-alone projectors/ displays, sound systems, audio/video (AV) conferencing units, AV digital recorders and switchers and wireless microphones.
- Provides direct end-user support to clients as an in-room technician, including presentation set up and operation.
- Troubleshoots a variety of AV equipment under demanding conditions, while remaining calm and professional.
- Responds to requests from the AV Manager, Program Managers and Meeting Coordinators for last minute changes or program additions.
- Provides portable audio visual equipment and services to library facilities and meeting rooms.
- Assists team with proper security, storage, transportation and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists with monthly and quarterly inventory and maintenance checks and forecasting equipment needs.
- Maintains understanding of current and new technology in all areas of AV.
- Performs setup and breakdown of all special events/business meetings.
- Seeks resolution to all break fix issues by escalating to management of resolution.
- Actively monitors helpdesk dashboard for potential service issues.
- Transports equipment to various locations by motor vehicle or as otherwise directed.
- Assists users in the operation and minor maintenance of audiovisual electronic equipment.
- Conducts research on AV equipment products in support of AV procurement and service development efforts. Evaluates and recommend products for purchase.
- Recommends, schedules, maintains and performs AV hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs as feasible.
- Works with AV vendors to ensure that all installations and repair works are done to satisfaction.
- Performs preventative maintenance to resolve problem or identify resolution to appropriate vendor or manufacturer
- Assists in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring AV performance.
- Accurately documents instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal.
- Assists in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future AV hardware needs.
- Performs other duties as required.
The schedule for this position will include Saturdays and evenings.
- Must have a High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or General Equivalency Diploma and at least 1 year of professional experience operating and maintaining audio video equipment, including professional audio and video cable wiring, routing, and signal protocols. Knowledge of basic alignment and calibration procedures for audio and video devices and ability to do basic component level electronic repair required
- Must have experience with operation, setup, installation, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of audio-visual equipment and equipment control systems.
- Basic knowledge of computers, video displays, audio controls, signal distribution, and recording systems required.
- Ability to present clear ideas strong organizational and customer service skills and the ability to troubleshoot AV problems required. Must have excellent communication skills. Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential. The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is required.
- Must also possess a clean and valid New York driver’s license.
