AV Studio Engineer

The Texas Tribune is hiring somone to oversee A/V production in our new events space in downtown Austin and at our other events across the state of Texas. Each year we produce over fifty events before live audiences featuring politicians and influencers big and small – here’s a sampling of last year’s highlights. The engineer also oversees A/V production for other events in the space, including in-house projects and use by outside guests. He or she produces polished online video and audio content from all of our events.

The engineer is also responsible for coordinating A/V needs for our remote events, including pre-production planning with the hosting venue and managing freelance camera operators when necessary. Some travel may be required.

This role requires a strong technical background in studio spaces and event production. We're looking for a flexible problem solver, who is self-motivated and pays close attention to detail. An outgoing personality and an ability to provide exceptional service is a must.

Production Duties

  • Manage the technical A/V requirements for the Texas Tribune’s new studio space;
  • Direct, light, livestream, edit, and deliver high quality video content from the Tribune’s live event program;
  • Be present for all local live events (includes some early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends);
  • Manage and maintain studio’s A/V system;
  • Communicate closely with the A/V staff of off-site venues to ensure smooth production;
  • Hire and coordinate video freelancers when necessary to work the off-site events; and
  • Cut promos and teasers for events at the direction of the Events and Multimedia departments.

Skills

  • Strong technical background and deep knowledge of the full spectrum of A/V needs for livestreamed event production;
  • Working knowledge and experience with video post-production tools, preferably with Adobe Premiere and Audition;
  • Demonstrated ability of pre-production technical planning for multiple events in various stages of the planning process; and
  • Strong communicator.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to getting the job done well and on schedule;
  • Demonstrated ability of live stage production experience;
  • 5+ years experience with A/V production; and
  • Must be personable, professional and cool under pressure.
