As a Marketing Intern, you will get a crash course in multiple areas of digital marketing to further your education. You will be working in the Marketing department of an innovative Inc. 500 company that develops marketing software for small businesses and marketing teams. You will be responsible for assisting the marketing team in executing a wide array of marketing strategies.

What you’ll do:

Your day-to-day responsibilities will shift and grow but to start with, you will:

  • Assisting with marketing promotional activities including mobile, e-mail, web, and advertising
  • Developing social media content for the company; monitor industry social media accounts
  • Maintaining databases and spreadsheets, and analyzing for patterns
  • Updating landing pages, and helping with the mechanics of sending marketing emails
  • Be a part of strategic design, writing, and editing projects for Leadpages including for the company blog and website
  • Setting up webinar promotions and editing audio/video
  • Helping with public relations initiatives such as building media lists, monitoring outlets for company and competitor coverage, assisting in writing pitches and press releases
  • Providing support with search engine optimization strategies

  • This is a paid internship with a competitive rate of $17/hr.
  • The position is part-time: Monday - Friday, 20-25 hours a week. A preferred schedule would include Monday AM and Wednesday AM to ensure you’re available for team/company-wide meetings.
  • Start and end dates are flexible, but February 5 - May 25 is ideal, with a possibility for an extension for the summer semester.
  • Located in the booming neighborhood of the North Loop in Downtown Minneapolis.

  • Bonus: Familiar (and willing to learn more about) software tools like Keynote, ScreenFlow, Leadpages, and Drip.
  • Bilingual fluency is a plus!

Part-time, Internship
The social media and administrative intern will assist Creating IT Futures’ marketing team in developing marketing campaigns and assisting with events. The part-time intern will research news trends and social media data while also preparing social media comments and organizing multimedia assets for the campaigns.

Job Responsibilities:
Organize an online library of multimedia inventory and tag all assets.

Research company and individual Twitter handles and company Facebook pages for social campaigns.

Research relevant industry news to comment on to boost thought leadership and draft tweet language for such comments.

All aspects of production will be covered from creative to final delivery. Intern will receive training in writing/scripting, camera techniques, lighting, and more.

Our Mission is to house, support and advocate for people experiencing homelessness. Simpson Housing Services began as an emergency overnight shelter in the basement of Simpson United Methodist Church in 1982. Simpson has since become a leading nonprofit providing assistance to people experiencing homelessness. In response to un-met community needs, our programs have grown to include emergency shelter, single adult supportive housing, and family supportive housing. We work across the metro area, partnering with landlords and developers to find affordable housing for all families and individuals. At any given time, we provide supportive services to 100 individuals and 200 families with over 400 children. 

How Can You Contribute? 

As a Communications Intern, you will work closely with the Development and Volunteer department’s team members to assist with communications and outreach efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications while working for a well-known community based nonprofit organization. In addition to working with communications projects, interns also assist with donors and visitors, general office duties such as photocopying, scanning, filing, faxing, etc. This position requires an organized and detail-oriented team player with excellent oral and written communication skills, strong relationship-building skills, and a commitment to social justice. 

This position will ideally work part-time during the spring ( January to June ) with the potential to continue in the summer (J une to September ). 

Responsibilities 

Communications Support :
Assist in creating a communication calendar. 

Create a social media calendar and write posts. 

Assist with curating website content about programs and participants. 

Contribute content to print materials such as annual report, newsletter, agency brochure, etc. 

Help with taking videos & photos of volunteers and participants. 

Assist with editing and proofreading of online and printed materials. 

Events and Outreach :
Assist with preparations for events, including the annual fundraiser Art 4 Shelter. 

Conduct outreach to local faith and community organizations to set up speaking engagements. 

Help prepare staff for scheduled speaking engagements. 

Provide positive representation of SHS through public relations and networking : 

Conduct market research and analysis to test our new services, develop competitive strategies. 

Interpret the program to constituents regarding SHS and its programs. 

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders. 

Assist with fund development as directed. 

Participate in staff meetings. 

Participate in professional meetings and workshops. 

Assist in creating social media content and advertisement for the SHS Facebook page.

Position Requirements:
Strong written communication skills

Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations).

6 Month commitment with the option to renew/continue. 

Essential Mental Functions:
Intern must have excellent organizational skills. 

Essential Physical Functions:
The intern must be able to hear and speak, in order to communicate with staff and participants in person, on the telephone and in writing. The intern must be able to lift items up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis. 

Scope of Position 

This position will be part of development and volunteer team and will work closely with the Director of Development and Communications and Grants and Contact Manger. The position is an 8-12 hour per week position, with flexible hours and the option to telecommute. 

Percentage time spent away from main office/location:
Time inside: 90%, Time outside: 10%, Agency travel time required: 2% 
Although this is a site-based internship FIRST, the option to Telecommute may be available. Work schedule will be determined with supervisor. 

Type of guidance and supervision received: Will participate in management meetings as requested.
